HANGAR FLYIN'

EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION March 2003

BIG COUNTRY CHAPTER # 471, INC.

Teamwork!

- Gray Bridwell

As I look back over the years, we have achieved so much through a lot of great people doing a lot of great things on behalf of the chapter. We have achieved the status of a 501 (c)(3), which allowed us to purchase and receive without the impact of tax. We have made the board resolution to increase membership through each member being able to bring two new paying members to the chapter and receive his/her membership free for the year. Membership will double this year at current growth rates from the time this program began. Newsletter growth- Our newsletter contains all club information past and present, and not to mention the color pictures of club activities. Web page development and current posting of the newsletter, letting all have access at any time to the happenings of the chapter. And last but not least, Chapter Breakfasts hosted by Pride Refinery. As most know, we started on the NW side of the airport with a donated bag of pancake mix with a handful of devoted members. We have a full breakfast menu in a climate-controlled hangar.

Now we regularly feed 80 every second Saturday. Plans are in the works to highlight nearby cities EAA chapters and invite them exclusively to attend

our breakfast. In return, we would attend their function. We have such a great tool to keep our membership active and to bring our members together once a month. Now we will show off our great breakfast to other chapters. When you have a good thing, show it off!

Spread the Word

We are a great group of aviators with a great airport to fly from. Our NW side provides us a great location for our Young Eagles, and our future fly-in/Airshow September 20th. Plans are to have the main event on September 20th, with early arrivals Friday afternoon and late departures Sunday morning. When we gather or talk aviation to friends, family and other pilots in our city and others, we need to take the time and SPREAD THE WORD of our great event. We will have spent a lot of labor by September 20th, and the same labor effort will be put forth whether we have 500 folks show or 5000. Get your family to come to the Abilene Regional Airport. Get the neighbors to come. Just be at the airport September 20th. . Get as many folks to come as you can!!

Dear EAA 471,

I am a pilot living here in Texas and my husband is also a pilot and member of eaa ( he is building an RV-4).

I have a web-based business which markets aviation properties. These properties are  houses located right on  residential airports so a pilot can keep an airplane right at home. I think homebuilders are especially interested in these types of properties because they would have much more time to work on their project. Would it be possible to make a note of this website, www.AirportHomes.com in your newsletter?

Thanks for your time,

Aviation Humor

and Charlotte Rhodes

The pilot was sitting in his seat and pulled out a .38 revolver. He placed it on top of the instrument panel, then asked the navigator, "Do you know what I use this for?"

The navigator replied timidly, "No, what's it for?"

The pilot responded, "I use this on navigators who get me lost!"

The navigator proceeded to pull out a .45 and place it on his chart table.

The pilot asked, "What's that for?"

"To be honest sir," the navigator replied, "I'll know we're lost

before you will."

Checked this out with Urban Legends....seems legit.....a good thing to

do......

PLEASE DO THIS AND PASS IT ON

Please visit the Department of Defense web page below and sign in thanking

the men and women of the U.S. military services for defending our freedom.

The compiled list of names will be sent out to our soldiers at the end of the month. So far, there are only about 4.0 million names. What a shame. National Military Appreciation Month. The entire exercise takes 10 seconds...literally.

Please pass it on to your email friends.

I thought you and the members of your EAA chapter might be interested in a new website that was just launched on December 21st 2002 at www.homebuiltairplanes.com .  If you like the site could you please pass it on to your fellow members?  If so, I would very much appreciate it.

Homebuiltairplanes.com is basically a discussion forum centered on homebuilt aircraft and the techniques for building and flying them.  I believe that it’s a great format for Experimental Aircraft enthusiasts to get together to swap ideas, share stories, post pictures, add links, publish technical data, and simply chit chat about homebuilt aircraft.  There is also an area for people to let others know what they need or what they have for sale.  This site is in it’s infancy at the moment, but I am confident it will grow quickly to become a great resource for the Experimental Aircraft community.  Feel free to stop by and register (it’s free).    If you have any questions you can post them to the forum or send me an email at admin@homebuiltairplanes.com.

Thanks for your time.
