President's Message

Sam Evans

First of all, this is going to be a short newsletter, and I apologize. The past month has been a busy one for me, but not necessarily with chapter-related stuff.

Welcome to the "dog days of summer", folks.  I just checked the density altitude at ABI... 5,100ft... whew!  I've managed to work on my RV in the mornings when it's not so hot.  But, after about noon, I go find a cooler place.

We had a good turn-out for our June breakfast.  The cooks did a superb job as usual.

There's been quite a lot of work going on behind the scenes in regards to the Big Country Airfest.  It looks to be like another fine production in the works for this year.  Check out www.bigcountryairfest.org

A few of the Chapter members are also getting geared-up for AirVenture up in Oshkosh.  I, for one, am looking forward to the trip.  This will be a unique year at OSH with some "never-been-seen before" attractions.  Go to www.airventure.org

and check it out.

471 Board of Directors Meets at Hangar 3

Chapter Vote Set for August 13th

The Chapter board of directors met at Hangar 3 Thursday afternoon, June 30.  In attendance were Sam Evans, Charlotte Rhodes, Gray Bridwell, Seymour Beitscher, Steve Krazer, Harold Cannon and Bobby Nichols.  The board heard comments and opinions from several Chapter member- consultants relating to the condition of Hangar 3.  In attendance of the meeting and providing information were Tim McMurray, Audie Gill and Dick Humphrey.  Tiny Malm also provided input as to the hangar's condition but was unable to attend the meeting. After a session of discussion, the board of directors voted on whether to proceed with Hangar 3 as a possible home to Chapter 471.  The board voted unanimously in favor of proceeding with the Hangar 3 concept. On Saturday, August 13th, a presentation will be given by board members.

Although this is our usual monthly breakfast date, the time will be spent primarily on the Hangar 3 issue.  A light breakfast will be served. After the presentation of information and a brief question and answer secession, Chapter members will have the opportunity to vote for or against proceeding with the Hangar 3 project.  The board decided that proxy voting on this issue will not be enacted.  This will be an important meeting and vote for our Chapter.  Your vote is your voice.  Please make every effort to be there.

In other board meeting discussion, Bobby Nichols asked for someone to assume the duties of Young Eagles Director.  Due to personal reasons, Bobby is unable to devote the time needed to Young Eagles events.  If you are interested in promoting the YE cause, please get in touch with Bobby at 672-6583.
